With Karlie Kloss walking the Elie Saab Fall 2012 show as her last commitment in Paris, you know it’ll be an awe-invoking collection with plenty of great legs and red carpet-worthy gowns. Kloss wore a black and grey power suit, strutting down the runway with her signature “death glare” as the most suitable accessory. While Saab is a beloved designer for many celebrities looking for a showstopping gown for the Academy Awards, his latest collection were drama queens on their own.
For the example, a theatrical floor-length black cape, covering a black jumpsuit cinched at the waist with a—black, of course—leather belt, may be too daring for the typical Hollywood soirée, but one would hope that someone other than Lady Gaga would saunter around in a piece like that. Daring high slits (perhaps too daring, since no Hollywood ingénue wants a full frontal panty shot) on metallic gold or emerald green gowns are more typical of Saab’s preference for glamour, but there were also many jumpsuits and cocktail dresses that exemplified his prowess for drapes and cuts. With a lack of pastels in the color palette, the Elie Saab client is looking forward to a dramatic autumn.
