The fashion world is coming off of a Fall/Winter runway season abundant in rich textures and extravagant embellishment. This upcoming Spring/Summer season we can expect the opulence trend to continue, as Rachel Comey set the stage with a collection fit for a hipster princess.
Comey's Spring 2013 show started off softly with wedding-bell white in her usual androgyny of boxy silhouettes, (save for the feminine touches of raw hemlines,) but her story line took a drastic turn, as floral beading graced the sleeves and bibs of her usual black-white-and-grey-all-over fare. To the surprise of many, out marched saucy jacquards- pinks, blues and florals- in softer shapes; think pencil dresses and lady-like separates. These looks were complimented with color-blocked heels (or flats,) in the same tones as the textured fabrics, but pops of silver integrated a sort of baroness of the future appeal.
Speaking of accessories, perforated leather handbags and lace-up oxfords lent themselves to what will surely be a sleeper trend for Comey this coming Spring, and there was an obvious effort to expand upon totes and satchels as a staple for collections to come. Needless to say, standouts included a silver, lurex short and camo-inspired floral print with multi-colored embellishment. Peek-a-boo one piece swimwear was a close second, but jacquard hot pants make it difficult to choose just one look. Rachel, we love you.
