Falguni and Shane Peacock led us on a Sci-Fi packed sojourn for Spring 2013. Never shy to express their fervency for form-fitting silhouettes and futuristic cuts, Falguni told us that the inspiration behind this collection is, “Space-Age meets cyber-couture with a rock and roll edge.” She continued:
Our clothes have always had a rock and roll feel to it, but this time we have taken it to another level. It’s more modern. The cuts are more geometrical and [it features] series of cutout dresses — but with a more commercial edge to it. Up until now we have been doing a lot of celebrity driven pieces, but this time you can imagine anyone and everyone wearing it.
Another level, indeed. Set to dimmed lights, revving engines and static radio control chatter, the show opened with an illuminated dress and studded Plexiglas helmet to match. Kaleidoscope and digitally printed dresses (shuttles lifting off!) followed in classic silhouettes modernized by deep cuts, peplums and mesh inserts — more casual looks, a first for Falguni and Shane. Doing what they do best, the patterns and lines played on the hourglass shape, accentuating the female forms. Of course the collection featured their signature, intricately embellished—by sequins, crystals, beads, feathers, metallic acrylics—show-stopping Red Carpet looks as well.
As for the constant underlying theme of rock and roll seen in their designs; when asked which bands the design-duo listen to most, Falguni quickly replied, “Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.”
