With pastels, ivory crepe, and metallic silk organza, Houghton's Spring 2014 collection really focuses on the moods of designer Katherine Polk's tropical inspiration. There's a soft sensuality here, even with the chunky forms and hard basketweaves. The following press information provides more information about the collection as well:
Designer Katharine Polk takes her Houghton girl to the coast this Spring, presenting a Spring/Summer 2014 Ready-to-Wear collection infused with airy silhouettes and comfortable tailoring in breezy pastel palette.
Inspired by her own trips to the Abacos Islands and Miami Beach, Polk showcases her signature easy chic pairing of luxury novelty fabrics with handwork detailing in a palette of pale blues and greens, soft blush and ivory, with hints of jet black in leather and silk.
Hand-crafted basket weave fabrics float down the runway in full skirts and tunics - including one novelty fabric made from interwoven strips of Houghton signature fabrics in silk and floral embroidery - mimicking the basket weave pattern of a beachside wicker chaise lounge. Sleeveless dresses in ivory pleated chiffon and pale blue hand-woven metallic silk organza are effortlessly finished with white leather belts, woven to look like rope.
"This season I was inspired by light breezy beach air," quotes Polk. "It sounds very simple, but I think that's what Spring is about. I just imagined gorgeous light fabrics floating down the Runway."
Models will walk the Runway in custom HOUGHTON x Birkenstock sandals. Polk collaborated with the classic German brand specifically for the Spring/Summer 2014 Runway show, covering the trademark two-strap Arizona sandal and wide-strap Zurich sandal in Houghton novelty fabrics and lining the inner foot beds with layers of lush, ivory silk terry.
