For spring 2014, the Ernest Alexander collection takes inspiration from an American gone abroad. Revisiting founder and designer Ernest Sabine’s experience living in Venice, he has conjured a collection that evokes the essence of the midsummer nights he had in his youth. Idle nights spent in the garden lounging under the lights of lanterns with good friends enjoying the old world atmosphere that can only be found in a place such as Venice. Spring 2014 incorporates colors, prints and fabrics all reminiscent of this party setting.
Ernest’s staple of Liberty prints continue to play a large role within the collection. Olive is shown in a more muted tone and is combined with bright pops of color, like pink, purple and orange, and party florals. Fun and playful prints also make their way into the collection with anchors and stripes.
The collection contains tailored pieces, including double-breasted blazers, suiting, and outwear. Linen shorts are paired with cotton shirts and blazers, while nylon is featured in outerwear. The always friendly pocket square and tie match each look to a tee. The smaller details of a hidden Liberty print underneath a blazer collar and the perfect back pocket flap found on a cotton trouser showcase the excitement of making garments unique yet wearable.
Spring 2014 also includes new bag silhouettes including the Alex Brief, the modern man’s briefcase and the Ludlow Carryall, inspired by Ernest’s travels and the need for a bag that can carry just about anything. Camouflage prints are a new addition to the accessories collection while classic Ernest Alexander waxed cotton silhouettes are given a refreshed look with bold colors.
It’s all about mixing up tailored pieces to create a light and effortless style for spring. Romance and youth within the collection allow Sabine to pay homage to those charmed nights in the beautiful garden remembering Venice.
