Salvatore Ferragamo's Resort 2013 show was presented in the halls of the Louvre, the first time a brand has shown inside the famed museum, thanks to unprecedented access provided by the museum via the brand's sponsorship of a current exhibit on Leonardo da Vinci. Stars including Hilary Swank & Freida Pinto turned out for Massimiliano Giornetti's summer-inspired collection that looks to the Big Sur & the California coastline, or just being lost at a beach somewhere in the mediterranean.
Fringe, python, and leather are everywhere, but the standout element looks to be the craftsmanship itself. The detail clearly looks labor intensive, and apparently one of the dresses made of strips of metal on leather took four people ten days to create. The press release from the event is enclosed below, and gives further insight into the collection.
In search of eternal summer. Big Sur, the coastline of California, or a small sunny island in the Mediterranean, where nature unfolds into a scenery of wild rocks and cliffs by the sea. The city is nowhere in sight. A modern blend of cool aesthetics with an eclectic cultural mix.
A woman whose eyes resemble the crystalline waters of St. Barts and the radiance of a morning in Eivissa. ELEGANT and independent, she has a penchant for luxury and an inherent sense of multifaceted style that she shares with Salvatore Ferragamo’s purest DNA. Leather on bare skin: an impalpable world of delicate neutral hues - Desert, Peach, Champagne, New Bisque - produces a soft and naturally warm palette combination with cooler tones like Ash and Clay.
A free spirit, she is relaxed yet chic and wears a boyish jacket nonchalantly, like a sweater, on top of a linen jersey T-shirt with leather piping, and trousers with a floral Ferragamo print. She wears an oversized knit that interweaves nappa and snakeskin in a marvel of artisanal skill, or a mini dress made of nude crocodile, and ultra-flat soft suede boots featuring studded embroidery. Her body peeks through a labyrinth of patchwork, lacings and fringes: all irresistible plays of texture, weaves of exquisite melanges and criss-cross necks. Dresses in handcrafted fringed nappa, ultra-soft leather T-shirts, blousons of interwoven leather and raffia inspired not only by iconic shoe-styles from the archives, but also by the art of manual knotting threads and plaiting straw where pure craftsmanship is the defining element. Day into night is seamless, wearing a handmade 3D crochet dress and ultra-flat suede sandals with mini-studs like tiny pearls.
On her arm, she accessorises with a soft, de-structured hobo exquisitely fashioned out of extraordinary materials, such as warm, luxurious crocodile, python or nappa with threaded fringes. The final touch: a gold and white bone Art Déco butterfly worn as a jewel clasp or a necklace pendant or the precious clutch formed by a mosaic of bone tesserae and micro-applications of exotic skins.
On metal, sculptured-jewels mimic the feel of leather finishing. Chaînes wind around her neck mixing silver and nappa; bracelets stacked on her arm are adorned with metal stitches; signet rings are in harmony with the raw effect of GALUCHAT and the natural opalescence of quartzes.
This unique interweaving of modern vision and tradition transmits a sense of exclusivity. Salvatore Ferragamo’s Resort 2013 woman.
