Romantic minimalism was how Rachel Roy named her Spring 2012 collection. All parts romantic and all parts minimalist, it was the perfect title.
Set outdoors, at the promenade at Avery Fisher Hall, Roy certainly made out both with the weather and her collection. Lined up, and facing out to the sun, the models were beautifully natural against a white background, standing up on a risen pedestal like goddesses. In front of a stylish crowd which included our own reality show goddesses, such as Kim Kardashian and Olivia Palermo, Roy showed a plethora of creamy silks that were like butter to the touch. Creams and whites were the basis of the color palette with splashes of color such as coral and turquoise. Basic blacks and nudes appeared amongst a few patterns that were thrown into the mix. Drapery and maxi lengths accentuated the romance theme, backless dresses evoked a sultry sense. An exotic vibe reflected Roy's own heritage as one was guided down the line of models. Light, airy, and beautiful are the best three words to describe Roy's high-end collection. Feminine and glamorous, with an "easy-breezy" California feel (Roy is originally from the golden state) but still had an independent NYC girl-on-the go appeal (Roy is now based out of New York City). The Rachel Roy woman is a sophisticated jet-setter, much like herself.
