New York was grey and rainy outside. Luckily for Band of Outsiders visitors, it was Los Angeles inside. For their Spring 2010 show, set designer Jared Lawton created a beachy scene inside Milk Studios, complete with motorized boat pond. A lesser collection could easily have been overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of the set, but Band of Outsiders and Boy by Band of Outsiders outshone the faux soleil. The collection can be summed up as grown-up children's seaside clothes. Several of the men wore sharply cut blue blazers with gold buttons over dip-dyed button-down shirts that played off the ocean scenes behind them. These were paired with slightly-above-the-knee khaki shorts and boat shoes. Making sure to drive home the California cool, most wore knitted beanies. The women's collection followed a similar pattern for the most part with light drawstring dress with tiny flower prints. Particularly appealing was a clever play on the men's elastic suspenders, which in their female incarnation became whimsical bandage skirts and stretchy sandals.
