The Blonds fashion show is the closest thing America has to the spirit of France's Haute Couture. Glamorous to the max, each of their intricate one-off corsets and dresses can take up to 8 weeks to produce and is targeted towards celebrity performers and specialty clients: Britney Spears, Rihanna, Fergie, Beyonce, Christina Aguilerra, and their peers.
This season, Phillipe and David Blond won a grant from the Ecco Domani fashion foundation to produce this show, and it looks like they pretty much spent it all on shiny sparkly spiky things. Inspired by iconic movies and cult films (The Women and The Lair of the White Worm for this season), the pair created a custom collection intended to evoke the transformation of the modern woman. They literally did this with an opening sequence where Phillipe Blond stomped out in a gorilla suit, which he stripped off and transformed into a fur coat to kick off the show to a cheering crowd of drag queens and misfits. The stars of this show were the shiny sparkly spiky things, which you would need if you happen to be headlining at your own concert in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans.
So with major stars already their clients, who else will the duo target? In a backstage interview, David Blond didn't hold back as said Oprah was their target for this season. Oprah in a spiky jeweled corset? Sure, why not?
