Olasul Swimwear 2011

WORDS - BOBBY MOZUMDER, INTERVIEW - MEGAN AVERBUCH, PHOTOS - OMAR MOZUMDER, VIDEO - CHRIS RUSSELL

Peruvian designer Lorenz Korder seems like the most chill guy on Earth, and represents everything about a laid-back Peruvian surf culture. Korder, who surfs (but isn't very good at it), presented his Olasul swimwear collection at the Swell Suits mens group show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami. The lines inspiration clearly shows in the tropical prints and warm muted tones and gradients. Meanwhile, the minimal racing stripes does at least represent some sort of physical effort, though probably more on the playful side than anything competitive. No rush here, just a fun time from Olasul.

MEGAN - We are channeling the Peruvian coast?

LORENZ - A bit, yeah. We're on kilometer 100 on the peruvian coast, no one near us, surfing, relaxed. That's the idea behind Olasul.

MEGAN - We're the surfer boy?

LORENZ - We're the surfer boy, but we don't know how to surf well. We're just relaxed people that just want to enjoy the ocean. We're not hardcore about it, very relaxed.

MEGAN - Is that the inspiration for the collection?

LORENZ - Yah my inspiration for the collection and further collections is really about the lifestyle of the peruvian coast and other surf meccas throughout the world. We'll be traveling every year to a different place, picking up local color and tying it with our own color.

MEGAN - So, as we're chilling on the beach, how important is the fit and quality of the bathing suits?

LORENZ - Oh that's very important. We pride ourselves in style, fit, and the best fabric we can possibly find. Fit is amazing, it's tight, it has a 50's/70's fit, when surfing was men in really short stuff, the waistband is really high above the waist, fabrics dry in a second, you're like an old-school surfer in modern wear.
