Newcomer Swiss designer Naila Chbib presented her Naila swimwear line at the Swell Suits mens group show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. The eco-friendly designer produces recyclable polyesters in an environmentally friendly manner and focused on creating the first recyclable men's trunk short. The designs were sleek with vibrant colours and modern patterns, which should appeal to the minimalist eco-conscious man.
MEGAN - From Switzerland, why did you get into designing bathing suits?
NAILA - I studied at Parsons school. I worked at a different internship in New York, and I've been wanting to do my own line, so here it goes.
MEGAN - What's most important when designing a bathing suit?
NAILA - The fit, the quality of the fabric. I think you need to look good in your swimming suit, and that's the most important thing.
MEGAN - Why men's?
NAILA - Mens? Because there is still a market to take. They didn't have that many designs made in Italy, and we wanted to do an eco-friendly brand, so we're using eco-friendly polyester which have never been made in mens swimwear before.
MEGAN - How important is it for you to be eco-friendly?
NAILA - Very important. I grew up in Switzerland, we're very eco-friendly oriented. I grew up with respect towards nature, so all the line is oriented towards an eco-friendly target.
MEGAN - What was your inspiration for this collection, your very first collection?
NAILA - Nature. It's everything about nature. Natural colors, natural fabrics. We also have a women's line which is using animal skin, animal prints, etc.
