The Marysia 2011 swimwear collection is undoubtedly the most feminine collection presented during all of Miami swim week. Soft, subdued colors and vintage high-waist shapes form a relaxed and romantic escape from the heavy electronic beats of the rest of swim week. In fact, the show was set to live Polynesian drummers, based on Marysia's thoughts of an old vacation in Fiji. Corduroy and straw hats were some of the unique details in a show that was so retro, perhaps set sometime in the 30's or 40's, when vacations were measured in months, instead of days or weeks. Marysia's dreamy world is one we could easily spend the rest of our lives in.
ALEX - Hi this is Alex from FutureClaw, and we're here with Marysia from Marysia swim, and we love your show! It was beautiful! What was your main inspiration for this line?
MARYSIA - I was hoping to take you on a vacation to fiji with me, on my little dream.
ALEX - Have you been to Fiji before?
MARYSIA - No, no, it's all in my head.
ALEX - I got that, with the drummers, that was great. It didn't distract from the line at all. It adds a lot to it. I saw an interview with you earlier, you have a lot of inspiration from your background in ballet?
MARYSIA - Yeah, I think, not intentionally always, but it always seems to come out. But everyone's like "It looks ballerina-ish". I think it's just a part of me that always seems to come out when I design.
ALEX - We definitely saw it in that first look, the pink, there were some ruffles. Is there any other places you think it found its way in?
MARYSIA - Yeah, the soft colors, the little feminine little loops. I don't know if you noticed that the leg, I think that was kind of ballet-ish. Just mainly the color, I think. Their hair was in a little bun, so that's a ballet touch.
ALEX - And when you think of Fiji, a lot of times you think of the blue of the water and the green of the trees. What made you go with this neutral color pallette?
MARYSIA - Yah they were just a toned down version. There was the blue, which I call seafood, and there was the green, which I call seaweed. But they were just nudie-base and I just really wanted everything to be toned-down this year.
ALEX - And what made you decide to take it so neutral, was there anything in particular?
MARYSIA - I just liked to change things up from last year. There were so many neon-pink ruffles, so I just want to give my customers something new to see and to wear.
ALEX - It was beautiful. It was very subtle. Is there anything else you like to add?
MARYSIA - No I hope you enjoyed the show.
ALEX - Oh we loved it!
