Mackage Spring 2012

WORDS - NICOLE TRUSCINSKI, PHOTOS COURTESY MACKAGE

For their 4th ready-to-wear collection, Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan - the design duo behind cool-girl and celeb staple, Mackage - presented a series of downtown-chic separates that highlight the juxtaposition of hard and soft, good and bad.

The label's signature tailoring was on full display in sleek trousers, 50s-infused dresses, and sharp leather jackets. In their latest collection, the designers cite the skyline at dusk as their inspiration for both the color palette and decision to play textures against the norm - leather was light and fresh in shifts, skirts and as an adornment to chiffon pieces, while satin and linen were structured and architectural in blazers, trousers and shorts. The mix of sweet-chic and tough-girl-cool is perfectly summed up by both designers' favorite piece from the collection: a Grace Kelly-esque A-line dress, complete with full leather skirt and tailored linen bodice. Sticking to a minimalist palette of ivory, tranquil gray and black, the pieces gave off that very timely, very coveted, model-off-duty vibe.
