Lisa Maree Swimwear 2011
Lisa Maree Boersma presented her Lisa Maree 2011 swimwear collection during the group show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami. Bringing high-tech crocheting to swimwear, the collection features hippie crochet looks on modern monokinis. The Australian designer's whimsical approach to swimwear was evident through the inclusion of a "lifeguard" overseeing the runway and also by one of the model bringing out a pet dog during her walk.
ALEX - Hi This is alex from FutureClaw and we're here with Lisa Maree of Lisa Maree. We loved your collection! The crochet was beautiful. I know we've seen some of it on Chanel's runway lately. How did you translate that into swimwear?
LISA - I've always loved crochet. I know crochet is very vintage. They used to do crochet back in the day, and we've revamped our crochet collection so it holds shape. We use a little bit of nylon without cotton, so when you do go in the water it does hold shape and stays beautiful.
ALEX - Oh that's wonderful so this is actually like active swimwear?
LISA - This is actual swimwear.
ALEX - Have you tried wearing any of it around here yet?
LISA - I do, I wear it every day, so you'll catch me by the pool at the Raleigh. Definitely.
ALEX - What was your inspiration in using crochet for your collection?
LISA - I'm an Oz girl, so I'm from Bondi Beach in Austrailia. Bondi is very laid back. It's very casual, very hippie. It's definitely where I got my inspiration of people. Just the people and the sand, and the beautiful waves. It all inspires what I do.
ALEX - Do you ever crochet?
LISA - I'm not the best sewer, unfortunately. I'm a really really good drawer, really good, but I'm not a crocheter.
ALEX - Well you're obviously an amazing designer. We loved your pieces, the black suit with the diamond necklace, it was heart stopping.
LISA - Great I'm glad you liked it!
ALEX - Do you have a favorite piece of the collection?
LISA - I do, I love the little strap bikinis at the moment, I'm into the nautical looks. So we do that in a turquoise, a red, a yellow, and navy, it just looks stunning out there by the pool.
