Kooey Swimwear Australia presented their 2011 collection during the group show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami. Subdued prints inspired by desert hues and abstract cuts shaped a largely relaxed swimwear collection.

FutureClaw was able to chat with Nikki Silverthorne of Kooey Swimwear Australia after the swimwear group show in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami.

ALEX - We saw some peacock in one of the other collections as well. Was that also colors drawn from the sunset, or did you work backwards? How did you get to the peacock?

NIKKI - The peacock feathers they were just used for styling, it's just something that we can bring together the colors with, but it doesn't actually have any bearing on what the prints were. Our prints were designed by aboriginal artists, and they were 100% authentic aboriginal art. So that's where we get our prints.. is that's where we get our inspiration from, and it piques up the colors of the desert in those.

ALEX - Can you describe some of those prints? I know we just saw them, but can you go into some more detail?

NIKKI - Sure, we have one that is like a striping sort of print, and that represents the layers of sand. When you dig deeper, you can see all the different colors. And them, we've also got another that's like a swirl, and that's like the swirl you see in the sands in the desert, and there's another one it's all circles and bright colors and also dark prints, and that's our desert sunset print, it just represents the colors in the sky.
