The Diesel crew loves rock-and-roll. Sophia Kokosalaki, Diesel's new creative director for their upscale Black Gold line, continued the brand's theme with an industrial and grunge vibe. The usual distressed denim, studs, and black leather were there, enhanced by torn and shredded edges, while trendy velvet and tulle layering brought back a bit of femininity to the women amid all the toughness. Asymmetric leather dresses on slim silhouettes should play well among the very social target audience. Obvious highlights are the sleek quilted biker jackets and a bleached wool top. I wished the studded ankle boots would jingle like a ghungru, but this is rock and roll, not kathak. Meanwhile, men were given similar industrial treatment in the distressed denim and leather, softened with casual blazers, to finish out a very American collection.
