Cia.Marítima, Brazil's most popular swimwear brand, showed a richly detailed, Moroccan-textured 20th anniversary swimwear collection for 2011, leading swimwear into the nomadic desert vintage-tribal look happening in much of the fashion world today. Brightly patterned jewel-toned bikinis dominate, further accessorized by cover-ups that include fashionable kaftans and harem pants made of light fabrics and inspired by fashion icons Talitha Getty and Yves Saint Laurent, who both called Marrakech their home. Detailing is the star of the collection, with ornamental embellishments and multicolor prints recreating the high-fashion Marrakech vibe. Meanwhile, high-fashion inspiration is a requisite for Cia.Marítima, as the Brazilian woman includes swimwear in her fashion statement. With this collection, Brazilian beaches are going to be filled with some of the world's most fashionable women sporting hot, up-to-the-minute bikinis.

 

FutureClaw was able to chat with Cia.Maritima's Benny Rosset after his runway show in Miami.

 

MEGAN - I'm here with Benny Rosset at Miami fashion week swim, and I just want to say parabéns! Did I say it right? Congratulations, 20th year anniversary collection, what did you do to celebrate?  What did you do to create to celebrate the 20 year anniversary?

BENNY - I think this is the most beautiful collection we've ever made, in 20 years. In Brazil we had a very big show in Sao Paulo Fashion Week. Then, we had an after party, a big one. And it's a whole year of celebrations. Maybe we're going to have a party in Rio de Janeiro, also.

MEGAN - Have an actual party?

BENNY - Yah, it's 20 years of hard work, and love for fashion.

MEGAN - What was the inspiration behind this collection? We saw a lot of different things, a lot of mix-match, so what was the inspiration?

BENNY - The main inspiration was Morocco. We traveled to Morocco last year. So we studying in Morocco for the last year, actually. And, we went there last September. Then we came back this April to Morocco, to shoot the campaign. All the campaign was shot in Morocco. And we studied their customs, their culture, the way they dress, the colors they like, the cities we went to. Marrakech, it's a lot of colors, and they mix a lot of things. So, the inspiration of mixing things came from them. In Marrakech you have the place where Yves Saint Laurent was buried, he had a lot of collections inspired in morocco, so some of them inspires also. You have in the 70's, Talitha Getty, lived in Marrakech, in Morroco, and she wore some kinds of dress. The way she wore it inspired us also, to manufacture, to create our dress in the collection.

MEGAN - Now, you are the most popular brand in Brazil, the place for swimwear. How are you living up to that, being the most popular brand in a spot where women love bathing suits.

BENNY - Yah, It's good and it's hard, because you have the responsibility to do every year, a better collection. And, you have to understand the way women loves those two little pieces. And you have to understand, the way they wear. And, they change every year, every year they change. Bikinis for Brazilians, it's high fashion. They don't go to the beach this summer with bikinis from last summer. So, you have to be updated, and you have to understand the market. But, for us, we're in the top. We're one of the top brands, for the last 20 years. It's a result of hard work. There's no secrets, you have to work, work, and work, and we work a lot.
