Niki Taylor is an icon. The celebrated supermodel is familiar to anybody with a passing interest in American pop culture.  Much has already been said of her triumphs and tragedies over two decades of continuous exposure in the national spotlight, so when FutureClaw was given the opportunity to work with her, we decided to put together a photo-shoot inspired by tribal looks to reference the spiritual being within such storied figure.

VICTOR DE SOUZA - Would you please tell me about your new projects?

NIKI TAYLOR - First and foremost project is my family.  I have a 19 month old and twins that are almost 16 year olds, so, if that’s not project, boy, oh boy.  But professionally I have had the great fortune in being asked to participate in a network TV project (which I can’t name yet), just taped yesterday (10/7/2010) a Biography Channel “Celebrity Close Calls” which I tell my story of the day that changed my life as I knew it, and continuing to work on partnerships with great brands.

VS - You have had much success even at a very young age, but you have also had much adversity.  What lessons do you take into this next stage in your career?

NT - Appreciate each thing I get to do and participate in.  Be grateful and really enjoy where I am and what I am doing.

VS - Not only are you a supermodel, but also a wife and a mother. What importance does high-fashion have in your day-to-day life?

NT - Well I live in Nashville where it’s a bit more laid back and casual but instead of maybe high fashion I call it functional fashion.  I do get the opportunity on date night and at event to really jack it up for high fashion and what person doesn’t love to that.

VS - Does spirituality play a role in your life?

NT - Yes I really believe with all that I have experienced in my life that God really isn’t done with me yet.

VS - The show you co-hosted with Tyson Beckford, Make Me a Supermodel, was picked up for a second season, but you did not return as co-host because you were pregnant. How do you balance your career and family?

NT - Always have perspective of what’s most important.  That’s been pretty consistent for me.

VS - Any advice for the everyday woman on how to strike that balance as well?

NT - Have a sense of humor, know what you want your end to look like and it’s a reminder of where you want to go and how you want to get there.

VS - You just had a daughter last year. Would you support her decision if she wanted to go into the fashion industry? What advice would you give her?

NT - YES of course.  She’s 19 months and showing a lot of athletic ability already but I want her to do what she loves, enjoys and what she’s passionate about.

FC - What changes in consciousness would you like to see in the fashion industry?

NT - Put models back on covers of magazines and in campaigns and let the movie stars do movies.
